Shipping & returns

Tracked delivery anywhere in the United States. Free on orders of $75 or more; below that the only method offered is Express Delivery at $22, which is also available above the threshold as a paid upgrade. Allow 5 to 7 days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.

We give you 15 days from purchase to return an unused item. That is our own policy rather than a United States statutory right, because federal law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase. Send it back unused and in resaleable condition and we refund what you paid for it, less a $29 per order handling charge; on a change of mind you also cover the return postage and the original delivery charge is not refunded. If the item arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, none of that applies: tell us and we put it right at our cost.

Your rights under federal and state consumer protection law are unaffected. That is a statutory right and nothing on this page limits it.

Wipe the faces when they dull. A reflective deterrent that is not reflecting anything is a piece of decoration.

For the places a strip will not fit.

A 21 inch reflective hanging disc. It moves, it flashes, and it makes an open area feel unsafe to land in.

Some places take a spike strip badly: a soffit vent, an open porch, the middle of a yard, the mouth of a barn. There is no ledge to fix to.

A hanging disc works differently. It turns, it catches the light, and it makes an area feel unpredictable enough that birds go somewhere else.

21 inches across, supplied per disc with a hook, and hung wherever there is something to hang it from.

It works best in an open space with some air movement and worst in a still, enclosed corner.

Expect to move them occasionally. Anything that relies on unfamiliarity gets familiar.

Bird Deterrent Discs | Repellent Reflective Discs | Bird Scare Discs (per 21 inch hanging disc)

This is the deterrent to reach for when there is nothing to fix a strip to. Soffit vents, open porches, the middle of a yard, the mouth of an outbuilding: all places birds use and none of them a ledge.

Bird Deterrent Discs | Repellent Reflective Discs | Bird Scare Discs (per 21 inch hanging disc)

The mechanism is movement and reflected light rather than a physical barrier, and that difference matters when you are deciding what to buy. A strip works forever because the surface has genuinely changed. A disc works because the area feels unsafe, and feelings adapt.

So use them the way they actually work: several rather than one, in an area with some air movement, and moved every few weeks. A single disc hanging in a still corner for six months is not doing anything.

Where a ledge does exist, a spike strip is the better answer and it is cheaper per foot. These two products are complements, not alternatives.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. We give you 15 days from purchase on any unused item. That is our own policy rather than a United States statutory right, because federal law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase, and we would rather say so than imply a right you do not have. Send it back unused and in resaleable condition and we refund what you paid for it, less the $29 per order handling charge; on a change of mind you also cover the return postage.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. Your rights under federal and state consumer protection law are unaffected. Read the detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a reflective disc deter a bird?

Movement and flashing light make an area feel unpredictable, so birds prefer somewhere else. It is not a barrier, which is the important difference from a spike strip.

Where should I hang them?

Open areas with some air movement: under a soffit, in a porch, at a barn opening, over a bed or a yard. A still, enclosed corner is the worst place for one.

How many do I need?

More than one. A single disc over a large area does very little. Space several across the space you are protecting.

Do birds get used to them?

Yes, in time. Anything that works by unfamiliarity does. Moving them every few weeks resets most of that.

How big are they?

21 inches across.

How do they hang?

From a hook, a wire or a line. Nothing is drilled and nothing is glued.

Will they work indoors?

Partly. They need light to reflect and air to turn, so a bright open barn is fine and a dark shed is not.

Are they noisy?

No. There is no clatter or chime, which is usually the point in a neighbourhood.

Do they work in the dark?

No. There is nothing to reflect. Birds roost at night, which is a good reason to pair discs with a physical barrier on the ledge.

Should I use these or spikes?

Spikes wherever there is a ledge, because the surface genuinely changes and stays changed. Discs where there is no ledge.

Will they scare my chickens or pets?

Generally no. Animals that live with them habituate within days, which is exactly the trait that limits them against wild birds.

Do they need maintenance?

Wipe the faces when they get dull, and move them occasionally.

What are they made of?

A reflective disc on a hanging hook. No battery and nothing to power.

How high should they hang?

As high as the birds are using. A disc at head height under a soffit full of nests is not where the problem is.

Can I hang them in a tree?

Yes. Fruit trees are a common use.

Will rain damage them?

No, they are made to hang outside.

Do they spin?

They turn in moving air, which is what produces the flash.

Can I use them in a barn?

Yes, if there is light and some air movement.

Will they annoy my neighbours?

They make no noise. In bright sun a moving reflection can carry, so think about where the light lands.

How many do I need for a garden?

Three or four spaced across the space does far more than one in the middle.

Do they work on gulls?

Less reliably than on smaller birds. Gulls are bold, and a roof edge is better handled with a strip.

Can I paint them?

No. The reflective surface is the product.

What if the hook does not fit?

Garden wire or a cable tie through the hole. Nothing about the fixing is special.

Do they tangle?

They can on a long line in a strong wind. Hang them short.

Will they scare bees or butterflies?

No.

Should I take them down in winter?

You can leave them up. Moving them occasionally matters more than the season does.

What does delivery cost?

Free anywhere in the United States on orders over $75. Under that the store's Express Delivery is $22. Allow 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.

What if I change my mind?

You have 15 days from purchase to return an unused item. A $29 per order handling charge applies and the return postage is yours. The refunds and returns page sets it out in full.

Do you supply trade quantities?

Yes. The wholesale quote page takes the quantity and comes back with trade pricing.

Who do I ask if my question is not here?

Email theteam@pestspike.com. A photo of the area you are trying to protect usually gets a complete answer in one reply.

Where a disc beats a strip, and where it does not

4 min read Pest Spike Company

Use them where a strip has nothing to hold on to

That is the whole case for a hanging disc. Soffit vents, open porches, yards, barn doorways: places birds use, with no ledge to fix a strip to.

Hang several, not one

A single disc over a large space does very little. Space them out so that most of the area has one within sight.

Air and light

They turn in moving air and they work by reflecting light. A bright, breezy spot is where they earn their keep. A still, dark corner is where they do nothing.

Move them every few weeks

Anything that works because it is unfamiliar becomes familiar. Repositioning resets most of it, and it costs nothing.

Pair them with a strip

Discs do nothing at night, when birds are roosting. If the roosting is on a ledge, put a strip on the ledge and hang discs over the open ground. The two products cover different halves of the problem.

Page summary

Bird deterrent reflective hanging discs sold by Pest Spike Company at pestspike.com, USD 28 per disc (regular 30). One 21 inch reflective disc, hung from a hook, wire or line. Works by MOVEMENT AND REFLECTED LIGHT, not as a physical barrier, so it is the product for places with no ledge to fix to: soffit vents, open porches, yards, barn openings. The page states plainly that a deterrent based on unfamiliarity ADAPTS, so discs should be used several at a time, in moving air, and repositioned every few weeks; where a ledge exists a spike strip is the better and cheaper answer. No minimum order. No effectiveness percentage claimed. Free US delivery over USD 75.
