Tracked delivery anywhere in the United States. Free on orders of $75 or more; below that the only method offered is Express Delivery at $22, which is also available above the threshold as a paid upgrade. Allow 5 to 7 days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.

We give you 15 days from purchase to return an unused item. That is our own policy rather than a United States statutory right, because federal law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase. Send it back unused and in resaleable condition and we refund what you paid for it, less a $29 per order handling charge; on a change of mind you also cover the return postage and the original delivery charge is not refunded. If the item arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, none of that applies: tell us and we put it right at our cost.

Your rights under federal and state consumer protection law are unaffected. That is a statutory right and nothing on this page limits it.

Looking after it

Re-tension it when it goes slack. Tape that has stopped twisting has stopped working.

295 feet of flash, for open ground.

Reflective ribbon that twists and flashes in the wind. It covers an area no strip can reach, for very little money.

Reflective ribbon on a 295 foot roll. Strung between two points it twists in the wind, flashing and rustling, and birds keep out of the space.

It is the cheapest way to cover open ground: a vegetable plot, a row of fruit, a boat deck, a yard.

Tie it to canes, wire, posts or a line. It needs a little slack so it can turn.

Sold as a single roll, a 3 roll pack or a 10 roll pack.

Like every deterrent that works by unfamiliarity, it fades with time. Re-tension and re-position it through the season.

Bird Reflective Tape - Single Roll

Scare tape is the least sophisticated product on this site and the best value per square foot of anything here. A ribbon strung across open ground twists in the wind, throws light in every direction and rustles, and birds treat the space as unsafe.

Bird Reflective Tape - Single Roll

Where it belongs is open ground: a vegetable plot before the seedlings are up, a row of soft fruit, a boat deck, a yard. Where it does not belong is a ledge or a roof edge, because a physical strip is permanent and tape is not.

Bird Reflective Tape - Single Roll

Two practical points decide whether it works. It needs slack, because a ribbon pulled tight cannot twist and a ribbon that cannot twist is just a line. And it needs to move, in both senses: re-tension it when it drops, and re-position it through the season so it stays unfamiliar.

Bird Reflective Tape - Single Roll

The 10 roll pack is what growers and site managers buy, and the single roll is enough for a domestic vegetable bed.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. We give you 15 days from purchase on any unused item. That is our own policy rather than a United States statutory right, because federal law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase, and we would rather say so than imply a right you do not have. Send it back unused and in resaleable condition and we refund what you paid for it, less the $29 per order handling charge; on a change of mind you also cover the return postage.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. Your rights under federal and state consumer protection law are unaffected. Read the detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a roll?

295 feet.

How do I put it up?

Tie it between two fixed points: canes, posts, wire, a fence line, a washing line. Leave slack so it can twist.

Why does it need slack?

Because the flashing comes from the ribbon turning. Pulled tight it cannot turn, and a taut ribbon deters nothing.

Where does it work best?

Open ground with some wind. Vegetable beds, soft fruit rows, boat decks, yards.

Where does it not work?

Still, sheltered spots, and anywhere a bird is roosting on a ledge. Use a spike strip on a ledge.

Do birds get used to it?

Yes. Everything that works by unfamiliarity does. Move it and re-tension it through the season.

How much do I need?

Run it in several lines across the space rather than one line around the edge. A single roll covers a domestic vegetable bed comfortably.

Which pack should I buy?

A single roll for a garden bed, three for a larger plot or an orchard row, ten for commercial ground.

Is it noisy?

It rustles. In a garden that is part of the effect; next to a bedroom window it may be more than you want.

Will it survive rain?

Yes, it is film rather than paper. Wind is what eventually tires it, not water.

Can I reuse it?

Usually for a season or two. It is cheap enough that most people re-run it fresh each year.

Does it work at night?

No. There is no light to reflect. Pair it with a physical barrier if the problem is roosting.

How wide is the tape?

A narrow ribbon, which is what lets it twist in light wind.

Which side is reflective?

Both. One face is usually silver and the other coloured, and the alternation is part of the flash.

Can I cut it?

Yes, to any length. Tie the cut end off so it does not fray.

Will it stick to itself?

It can if you bundle it wet. Roll it loosely.

How far apart should the lines be?

Close enough that most of the ground has a ribbon in sight, which is usually a few feet apart across a bed.

Can I hang it vertically?

Yes. Streamers hanging from a cane work well over a small bed.

Does it work on pigeons?

On open ground, for a while. On a ledge a pigeon is already using, a spike strip is the answer.

Will it damage plants?

No, but do not tie it tightly around a growing stem.

Can I use it on a boat?

Yes, and it is easily the cheapest thing to try on a deck or a mast.

Is it visible at night?

No. It needs light and does nothing after dark.

Does it degrade in sun?

It gets brittle eventually. A season or two is normal, and it is cheap to replace.

Will it work in a greenhouse?

There is rarely enough air movement inside one for the ribbon to turn.

Can I attach it to netting?

Yes, and the two work well together over fruit.

How much do I need for an acre?

That is the 10 roll pack, and it is worth asking for a wholesale quote at that scale.

What does delivery cost?

Free anywhere in the United States on orders over $75. Under that the store's Express Delivery is $22. Allow 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.

What if I change my mind?

You have 15 days from purchase to return an unused item. A $29 per order handling charge applies and the return postage is yours. The refunds and returns page sets it out in full.

Do you supply trade quantities?

Yes. The wholesale quote page takes the quantity and comes back with trade pricing.

Who do I ask if my question is not here?

Email theteam@pestspike.com. A photo of the area you are trying to protect usually gets a complete answer in one reply.

Stringing tape so it actually turns

4 min read Pest Spike Company

Two points and some slack

Tie the ribbon between two fixed points and leave it loose. The flash comes from the ribbon turning over on itself, and a ribbon pulled tight cannot turn. This is the one thing that decides whether the tape works.

Cross the space, do not edge it

A line around the perimeter leaves the middle open. Run several lines across the area instead, spaced so most of the ground has ribbon within sight.

Pick a windy spot

No wind, no movement, no effect. In a very sheltered garden, hang it high where there is more air.

Move it through the season

Birds adapt to anything that is simply always there. Shifting the lines every few weeks costs nothing and restores most of the effect.

Do not use it on a ledge

If birds are roosting on a gutter, a parapet or a sill, tape is the wrong product. A spike strip changes that surface permanently and costs less over its life.
